MU28 Mr. Jenkins - In Transit/Sleep C30

From the South Carolina Lowcountry, but most recently based in NYC, Mr. (Nick) Jenkins has been regularly self-releasing stuff for about five years. This tape is two EPs, one released earlier this year (In Transit), and one brand new (Sleep). In Transit sort of expands on the 8-bit instrumental pop direction explored in his 8 Bits & Pieces album from summer 2010, while Sleep goes in a more extended, glitchier direction. This tape was released as part of Receiver Fest, which was from March 10-13 in Charleston, SC. We made 25 copies of this on red tapes. If it sells out we will make 25 more. If those sell out, I'm not sure what we'll do.
In Transit:
1. Afternoon Showers
2. Parade
3. Trains & Tobacco
4. For the Bartenders of The Huxton

Sleep:
1. TV Setback
2. Maybe, Yes. Maybe, No. (Ask Again, Later)

MU23 Emperor X - Defiance (For Elise Sunderhuse) C50xC6loop SOLD OUT

Defiance (For Elise Sunderhuse) is a meditation on the nature of life and death. It is dedicated to a young woman who lost her life in a car accident in Missouri.

Here is the concept: the sides of the C50 are reverses of each other. Things whose meaning is obscured upon first listen reveal themselves later, and things that made sense before are now unintelligible. The "single" and title track is on the six-minute loop cassette, in both forward and backward forms. Listen to both at the same time, or each separately.

If your download code doesn't work, please contact us.

Limited to 50 copies. $8 plus s/h ($2.50)

THIS TAPE IS SOLD OUT.

MU24 Cop Magnet - Babe Magnet C29

We got a box of tapes in the mail with a scrawled note that just said "ERASE THIS TAPES." Not being one to disobey anonymous instructions, I fired up the ol' mass-demagnetizer and pressed GO. When I popped one of them in to make sure the deed was done, it had all this music on it. It was kind of like a pre- or post-beach barbecue when the sun is still up, at the house of your two best friends who got matching tattoos.

Apologies

Dear Internet and the People affiliated with it,

Mirror Universe would like to extend its deepest apologies for the lack of updates as of late. Ben and I (Ryan) have had very busy personal lives including Work, School, the Holidays and other normal life things. There is good news on the horizon though, after months of toil and turmoil we will soon have several tapes available from artists such as Active Child, Sacred Harp, Kid Trails, and Sun Mantra. All for tapes will hopefully (PRAY FOR US) be out very, very soon and will be up on the website for order.

After those releases are knocked out we will have The Meanest Boys, Truman Peyote, Dead Gaze, Tapeworms Eat Bookworms, and Pink Priest. These are ALL going to INSANE cassettes and we will let everyone know when they are available.

In early 2010 we will have releases from Total Slacker, Cough Cool, Tan Dollar, Expensive Looks, and Magic Places. Check the bottom of the page to see what else we have coming out in 2010.

Last but not least, A group of friends have opened Charleston's very first Community Space and Venue (thats not a shitty bar) called OUTERSPACE and Mirror Universe has compiled a totally radical Fundraising Compilation entitled "Deep Space Drum Circles". Every last single dime of the proceeds will be going towards the venues costs and will be strictly limited to 200, 100 on White and 100 on Black for $4! THATS A STEAL! OR you can donate a dollar and we will send you the MP3 files, but thats not nearly as cool or tangible as a super limited tape with super rad artwork, right? So, help us keep our dream alive! Updates will come soon!

THANKS, RYAN AND BEN.

M.R. is a stage name of Matt Rabin which is itself a stage name. Previously making music as Green Man Blues Band, this new name, like many others, signifies a new musical direction. One one hand, he is distorting the guitars a little bit and adding drum machines, and on the other, he is shedding the structure and sound of the blues (a shedding he had already started) to make gentler, folkier tunes that still pack a menacing punch. I truly believe that this is what Charles Manson would sound like if he was making music now. Also present are shades of Ugly Casanova and Devendra Banhart.

Comes with a free download.

MU01 Ophibre/Brian Grainger split #3 C44

BLACK SIDE: OPHIBRE - THE ASCENDING TORQUE AURA sample
BLUE SIDE: BRIAN GRAINGER - THE DESCENDING CRYSTALLINE HAND sample
$6 plus shipping

I don't know much about Ophibre, except that he is from Boston, he puts out some deep layered conceptual drones and he is friends with Brian Grainger, who has been making music as Parallax, Vhom, Coppice Halifax, Milieu, etc. for what seems like forever. Black Side is like a machine dying, Blue Side is like a planet coming to life. Perfect for driving (during the day), studying, meditation/prayer, or for putting on at a winding-down party at your house where you want everyone to leave or fall asleep (that is a good thing).

On handsome purple tinted cassette with spray-painted labels.

Comes with free download! Just enter the URL that you find in the tape and enter the passcode. We ripped the tape so you don't have to. Two copies for the price of one!
